Our fieldtrip to Alex’s Hair
& Nail Connection was a great success! Before our visit we asked questions
at circle time such as: Have you ever had a haircut? What do we need to make
our own salon here at school? The children came up with mirrors, blow-dryers,
curling irons, cape or apron, empty shampoo and spray bottles. They also set up
a waiting area. They used magazines, telephone, cash register, and clipboard
with pencil. Then the children took turns role playing the different roles
needed. The preschoolers also did different art projects. There was sponge
roller painting, mirrors with aluminum foil and they even came up with a sign
(Princess Salon and Batman Hair cuts). The children came up with a graph. What
color is my hair black, brown, red or blonde? We ended the week with “Crazy
Hair Day” The children came with funny hair do’s (gel, spike, mohawk, blue,
purple hair and lots of ponytails! Then the big day came to visit this local
well known salon. Alex was happy to share his experiences and the children got
to see a customer get a haircut, during our visit we got a tour of the salon
and compared it with our own salon when we got back to the classroom. Alex also surprised the children with a
wonderful treat. The girls got their nails polished with sparkles and the boys
got their hair spiked! What fun we had! Special thanks to Alex and staff for
your time and service! What a wonderful community helper!!!
